Youth Support Worker / Mentor – Bedford

Cornerways Care are currently recruiting for a Young Person's Support workers/Mentors to come and support within a semi independent home(s) in Bedford. Cornerways Care specialises in offering accommodation and support for young people aged 16 and over. There is an opportunity to grow with the company make a positive difference in Young people’s lives.

Cornerways Care focuses on helping with everyday life, as a support worker/Mentor here you will be helping the residents with anything from helping them to get a college place to encouraging them to plan meals and shopping. You will be providing a caring influence in the development of the young peoples time within the placement. Due to the nature of the young people in the home you will need to be comfortable dealing with challenging behaviour. The children are all independent with their personal care but sometimes may need prompting.

Essential skills will include:

  • The ability to get on with people of all ages and backgrounds and gain their trust
  • Tact, patience and understanding
  • Computer literacy and administration skills
  • Mental strength, to cope with challenging situations and clients
  • Be pro-active in assessing what Young persons needs are and assisting them with various duties
  • Any social work background advantageous 


For this role you will need experience working in an environment like this. An up-to-date enhanced DBS is also required; we can assist with getting one that is on the update service if needed.

HOURS: Various hours, including evenings and weekends + bank staff available. Sleep-ins required: £50 per sleep in shift

Salary: £7-8 p/h + £35 sleep in
