Our Residential Homes aim to:

  • Planned placements that involve a visit by the child to the home for tea or overnight stays if appropriate. There are certain circumstances where same day admissions would be considered, this would be when the placement was clearly identified as likely to be medium to long term.
  • Placements for children who have been identified as having complex needs and require a therapeutic approach to care.
  • Therapeutic homely environment which takes into account, and is sensitive to, age, gender, ethnicity and sexual orientation of the child concerned. Such children may be vulnerable to abuse, exploitation, self-harm, those who have a history of multiple failed placements and have experienced attachment difficulties or trauma in their lives.
  • Good quality and safe care for up to 2 children who require care and stability whilst their current needs are assessed.
  • Care plan that allows children reunification with their birth family or, in instances where this is not possible or appropriate, provide the tools necessary to support children to move on in the future.
  • Cornerways also provide psychological services for children and have an assessment home for short and possible long term placements.

Service

Staff at the home are being trained to provide a therapeutic approach to care. Children who suffer from anxiety, or have low self-esteem, who are at risk of self-harm and those children who exhibit behaviours which require a small team of individuals who assist them would benefit from our residential homes. Children will learn life skills to feel safe, recognise their potential and learn personal resilience. We also want children to experience stability by managing the highs and lows with them, giving them structure and consistent boundaries. We want all children to have positive experiences with us and leave our homes with increased confidence and independence.

What they said
